UTC−5 means the local clock reads five hours earlier than Coordinated Universal Time. When it is 18:00 UTC, a place on UTC−5 reads 13:00.

This is Eastern Standard Time in the United States and Canada during winter, and it is also the year-round time in Colombia, Peru and Ecuador. Because Bogotá never changes its clocks, it matches New York in winter but is an hour behind it in summer.
